VALORANT hardware privacy guide: Vanguard on PC
A VALORANT hardware privacy guide to Vanguard requirements, safe PC checks, account boundaries, and what to do before changing firmware settings.
A useful VALORANT hardware privacy guide has to separate three things people often bundle together: Riot account security, Windows platform integrity, and hardware identifiers. A login problem is not automatically a device problem. A Vanguard restriction is not automatically a ban. Changing firmware because a forum post says “HWID” can turn a clear support issue into an unbootable PC.
This article is an evidence-based checklist for understanding that boundary. It does not explain how to evade Vanguard or a Riot enforcement. VALORANT is also not listed on SpoofHWID’s current Status page, so nothing here should be read as a product compatibility claim.
What Vanguard is checking in 2026
Riot describes Vanguard as a security system that evaluates the integrity of the PC before and while a Riot title runs. The exact requirement shown to one player can differ from the requirement shown to another. Riot’s official explanation of VAN:Restriction and motherboard pre-boot security discusses controls including Secure Boot, virtualization-based security, and IOMMU. That does not mean every machine should enable every switch blindly; the restriction dialog should identify what Vanguard wants from that configuration.
Riot also introduced an optional Vanguard On-Demand mode for qualifying Windows 11 systems in 2026. It uses Windows platform-security features so Vanguard can start with the game instead of at system boot. The normal configuration remains available, and Riot says the on-demand path is optional.
These controls are broader than an SMBIOS serial. They concern how Windows started, which security features are active, and whether the chain from firmware to the operating system can be trusted. The three identity layers to keep separate
Riot account state
Your Riot ID, recovery email, two-factor authentication, enforcement history, and regional account settings live with Riot. Reinstalling Windows or changing a component does not rewrite those records. If the message concerns an account suspension, use Riot’s account and appeal process.
Windows security state
Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, VBS, HVCI, IOMMU, driver signatures, and the Windows build describe the trust state of the operating system. A BIOS update, a legacy boot conversion, or a new motherboard can change that state even when your account is untouched.
Hardware inventory

Vanguard may combine signals, but Riot does not publish a recipe that outsiders can safely reduce to “change this serial.”
A safe VALORANT PC audit
Start by recording facts, not changing them.
- Copy the complete VAN code and restriction text. A cropped screenshot that hides the requested feature is not useful.
- Open Windows System Information and record BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
- Open the Windows TPM management console and record whether a TPM is present, ready, and which specification version it reports.
- Check Windows Security for Device security, Core isolation, and any warning that names a driver.
- Record the Windows version, motherboard or PC model, BIOS version, and recent driver or firmware changes.
- Check Riot’s support article for that exact code before touching UEFI.
If the official resolution requires a firmware setting, obtain the instructions from the PC or motherboard manufacturer. Make sure you can retrieve any BitLocker or device-encryption recovery key first. Switching between legacy and UEFI boot modes without preparation can make an installed system stop booting.
Do not download a “VAN fixer,” replace random system files, clear the TPM impulsively, or paste boot commands from an anonymous video. A legitimate integrity check deserves a reversible, documented repair.
Privacy questions worth asking
Kernel-level security software has a larger technical trust boundary than a browser extension. That makes precise questions more useful than blanket claims:
- When does the service start and stop on my configuration?
- Which Windows security features does the current restriction require?
- Where is Riot’s current privacy notice and support documentation?
- Can I reproduce the problem after a clean boot with supported drivers?
- Does the same error occur before sign-in, at launch, or only when entering a match?
The answer is not to obscure the machine until nobody can diagnose it. Preserve the factory state for vendor support, firmware updates, account recovery, and crash reporting. If you use temporary hardware-privacy tools for legitimate research elsewhere, understand why reboot-based reversion matters and never assume that another game’s coverage transfers to VALORANT.
What not to infer from a VAN message
A VAN restriction does not prove that Riot has banned the motherboard. A requirement for TPM or Secure Boot does not prove that one serial number is wrong. A game launch failure after a BIOS update does not prove that Vanguard caused the update.
Likewise, an account action cannot be responsibly “fixed” through device changes. Riot owns the account record and its appeal path. Attempts to work around an enforcement can violate the game’s rules and destroy the evidence support needs to review a false positive.
If the error began after legitimate maintenance, write down the timeline: last successful launch, Windows update, GPU driver, BIOS revision, virtualization change, and first error. That timeline is more useful to Riot or the manufacturer than a folder of unsourced tweaks.
A clean decision path
Use the wording on screen to choose the next owner:
- Riot account or enforcement notice: Riot Support.
- Named VAN code: the matching Riot support article.
- TPM, Secure Boot, or UEFI configuration: your PC or motherboard manufacturer, with Riot’s requirement in hand.
- Windows security panel reports a problem: Microsoft or the hardware vendor.
- A third-party driver is named: the driver publisher; remove or update it through supported methods.
- You are evaluating SpoofHWID coverage: the live Status page, not this article or a cached search result.
That path is slower than a one-click “fix,” but it preserves your data and gives each vendor a problem it can actually own.
